"Rizal and Myself"

“Rizal and Myself” is a composition of association between the writer and the hero, Jose Rizal.

To give a brief history regarding what I know about the national icon, a flashback of my childhood deserves a peek and a review. Way back when I was four, I got a one peso coin as a change for the first item that I bought in the sari-sari store. At six, I visualized the life of Jose in a television show “Bayani”, which illustrated the hero’s story from childhood till death. But in assurance, acting and money does not have to do with my comparison with him.

A confession of truth must first be established in order to understand the writer’s stand regarding our “Bayani”. Since I first read a history book, way back taking my primary education, the champion in the name of Pepe isn’t just my kind of hero. There might have been another “Rizal” if he weren’t around. Also, lurking within me are questions that seemed to doubt the credibility of the one who is called “the national hero” – certain issues that a little boy cannot seem to understand. Like issues regarding his irony on being too idealistic and breaker of his own ideals, his pedophilic - incest relationship with Leonor Rivera, his use of prostitutes in Austria, his retraction, his eligibility of the title “National Hero” as used by Americans as a strategic icon and lots and lots more.

I firmly believe that nobody is perfect, even Rizal isn’t one. But then again I also concede to the fact that he was a leader and servant to the Filipinos in his own way. So what makes more sense at this moment is that he did a good thing for our country and at times we owe him our nationality.

Now back to the body – it will consist of positivistic point of view, regarding Rizal’s beliefs and mine. Using the format BAR (beliefs, actions and results) I will present the Rizal in me.

My Principles: On "When the Flame Flickers"

"when the flame flickers" is a short descriptive entry of a situation regarding a relationship that has entered into marriage. where in the text shows the reality that there would be a certain low point of a relationship that a couple could reach. back in college, our bioethics professor made us write an essay regarding the situation that is given. in this entry, the italicized part, pertains to "when the flame flickers " and the questions to be answered. and for the normal upright text is my original writing. by the way the art work was made by my mom, she's like a fashion designer in her own right. any way, situation goes as follows...

She looks radiant in her white chiffon gown, draped with lace—her wispy veil unable to hide her excitement. He looks handsome in his barong—striking, strong, and full of anticipation as he awaits the arrival of his bride at the front of the church where they will officially join their lives together. The ceremony and celebration of this moment are fit for the coronation of a prince and his princess.

But this is not the wedding of royalty. Similar customs and emotions happen every day all over the world. A man and a woman merge their lives with the highest of expectations, and seal it with a kiss. This is the drama of countless movies and novels, poems and plays, tales and legends. Two people give themselves to each other and then live happily ever after. Or do they?

Repost: Letter form the PNCT: Fundrasing

Climbers, due to some news from the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC), we're now compelled to ask for donations from the climbing community. We were informed last October 6 that POC is asking SCAPI to submit money for tickets and accommodations on or before the 20th of October. Before this correspondence, we were under the impression that POC was giving us the freedom to buy the tickets and book hotels on our own as long as it's before the SEAGames.

We still plan on pushing thru with the events scheduled after the 20th of October since the funds will still benefit the Present and the Future National Team (for funding their training and expenses for other competitions abroad).

SCAPI is eyeing to send 7 more athletes (POC is funding 1 athlete and 1 coach only). Here is the new breakdown of expenses that POC gave us:

Round trip flights: US$ 512 x 7 athletes x Php 44.00 = PHP 157,696.00

Travel Tax Exemption Processing Fee: Php 200 x 7 athletes = PHP 1,400.00

Accommodations: US$ 50 x 7 athletes x 9 nights X Php 44.00 = PHP 138,600.00

TOTAL FUNDS NEEDED BEFORE OCTOBER 20: Php 297,696.00

"Color brings out life in every picture"

Warning: this post contains loads of cheesiness, so if you hate stuff like that do not continue from this point-on. Btw if you do continue beyond this point, please do share your thoughts and comment on this one, everything will be greatly appreciated. :)

I have a theory that genuine happiness brings out life even with the lack of color and happiness comes in when you find love or you are deeply in love. So to test it all out here is a simple experiment for it.

Letter for WORLDS from Dino De Leon

Dear Fellow Filipinos,

Greetings of goodwill!

As you might all probably know, the Philippines was awarded the exceptionally rare opportunity to host the Olympics of debating--the World Universities Debating Championship!

The 32nd World Universities Debating Championship, colloquially known to the World Debate Community as "De La Salle Worlds", will be held in De La Salle University on December 27, 2011-January 4, 2012. The most brilliant students from the top universities in the world like Harvard, Cambridge, Oxford, Stanford, Yale, NUS, and Sydney will be coming to De La Salle University to participate in this 9-day exchange of wit, intellect, and rhetoric. The Grand Finals will be held in the Plenary Hall of the Philippine International Convention Center to be televised live in at least 3 television networks and to be graced by key government officials and members of the diplomatic core.

HOW TO SURVIVE A COCKBIE (ZOMBIE-COCKROACH) APOCALYPSE

Zombie apocalypse has been long fantasized by fanatics and believers that rules are set and made up in order to “survive”, if it happens - the great ordeal of a zombie outbreak.

But seriously there is a more pressing issue this rainy season, more horrendous, full of suspense, stinky, a hideous version to the real life… a fucking flying cockroach.

Just recently I had an incidence with this airborne creepy critters heading towards me as a point of landing, I’m helpless, hapless and speechless that time that the monster eventually gave me the facial of my life. I shook-off and shooed the cockroach with my bare hands. For a moment my heart went boom and experienced tachycardia then a sign of relief.

My ideal household

My ideal ways to raise a home.

1.       Living a low tech life -technology eases life but it ruins relationships, ergo it should be kept low and be used for security purposes only.

2.       More books and less boob tube – there are many advantages of being a wide reader; this will make a person imaginative, creative and open minded. Also books are far easier to control than tv-media in terms of content.

What I must do in order to be healthy?

What I must do in order to be healthy?

The only answer to my question is frequent- regular exercise and DISCIPLINE. I must say I’m having the time of my life – I’m in a relationship with a great person in Nikki and having her by my side always makes me feel that I’m taken the best care that I ever had other than how my parents took good care of me. One aspect of that care is supplementation and I say oh boy I will never get hungry with how she treats me, literally and figuratively. The point is, I cannot skip EATING when I’m with her. So, in order to compensate I must implement an iron fist and I must master my own art of DISCIPLINE.

SA AKING PAPANAW (in my point of view): Mideo Cruz's Art Work.

My position regarding Mideo Cruz's art works

Art is lurking around us to tell us about things, as a freedom of one's expression. It could be sometimes a hard blow of what reality is.

SA AKING PANANAW (In my point of view): After "Pilipinas Kay Ganda" its now "Pilipinas,Tara na!"? here are my thoughts on the new Toursim slogan.

before everything else CLICK HERE for a brief background on the issue regarding the dynamic changes in the Philippine's Tourism slogan.

Why do we need to constantly change our tourism slogan? Isn't it in change we defy the principle of RECALL?

90 DAYS TO A PERFECT BODY

90 Days to a perfect body will be my mini journal on the progress of my yes... LIFE STYLE CHANGE! All I have done in the past few blog entries was make promises or pledges that hasn't materialized at all. Now for a change I'll put my daily activities, and yes food intake in order to track my very own PROGRESS.

90 days will just be a reminder of my Short term attainable goal, to lose 50+ pounds from my current weight of 210 pounds. I hope this won't stop when I reach the 90th day - and hopefully this one would turn to be a habit to a better ME.

Actually I'M MORE INSPIRED THAN EVER TO DO THIS LIFESTYLE CHANGE. SO NOW I'LL COMMIT TO THIS ONE, NO MATER WHAT!

Road to perfect body Day 27

Reached my anaerobic threshold, needs a lot of rest. Looking forward to Day 29 - when I run and climb again.

Road to perfect body Day 26

Football + Pyramid Climbing = FML

Road to perfect body Day 25

Breakfast was 1/4 cup rice 1 and half salted egg and 3 spoons of oat meal, lunch was a can of tuna for tuna caesar salad, 3 slices of pineapple and 1 can of pineapple juice, dinner 2 small bowls (2 and a half cup) of fried rice, 1 pastel, 1 durian and "tuna-Diablo" Spell calorie count - probably very high.

For my physical activity - intense, maybe? walked on my way to UP academic oval from Power Up TS, jogged a good 2.2 Km, and then brisk-walked back to TS, climbed a total of 19 walls, back home did 150 dips, 300 crunches, 90 leg raises and 3-hundreds.

Sweet.

Road to perfect body Day 24

Ate small for breakfast, lunch and dinner and a midnight snack. Had some time for light floor exercises. Went to a friend's mother's wake - the culprit behind the midnight snack - no regrets though.

Road to perfect body Day 23

I don't like this updating thing anymore haha it is tiring and frustrating haha but any way worked-out really hard but did not manage to watch out on the diet. tom is light work and meal day.

Road to perfect body Day 19-22: FAIL

Road to perfect body Day 18:

Doughnuts won't do you good, got guilty so I climbed.

Road to perfect body Day 17:

Nothing happened

Road to perfect body Day 16:

Got fatigued due to the previous day - so rest day HAHA

Road to perfect body Day 15:

This is the day before ASH WED. So after this one goodbye meat for 40 days and 40 nights. So to compensate and to really harden things my last meaty lunch was established.

I met up with my good old brother - maybe not blood brothers but any way fuck it and we ate A PLATTER OF MEXICAN FOOD good for 3-4 persons and a 10 inch Burrito and boy it was a BLAST! One pretty big meal for the whole day and that's it.

This day was actually a day of rejuvenation as I went back climbing, had a great re-baptism of fire, almost 3 months of no-climbing after my injury. Endurance climb is and will be my theme for the next 2 weeks.

Went home early and finished my floor exercises at home. 3 sets 100 crunches, 3 sets hundreds, 3 sets 30 leg raises, 3 sets 50 for obliques, 3 sets 50 dips, 3 sets 100 biceps 5 lb. weight lifting, 3 sets 50 lady push ups.

tomorrow I run and do some laps in the easy walls.

Road to perfect body Day 14:

I think i have abused my body, my mind was shouting depressing thoughts. I felt I have no more happy hormones left in me. Got the super bored feeling. Slept for the whole day. Sulked over thingamajigs.

In order to, ahem, recuperate I had some endorphins blaster, - half bar of milk chocolate, that is and yes some good old comfort food - a bowl of seafood ramen and tuna caesar salad.

I did absolutely nothing that day, I just literally slept.

This isn't the right path for a perfect body. Any way, looking forward to a new and fruitful day 15.

Road to perfect body Day 13:

Ate one really heavy meal after a 30 min. of jogging. Did my daily routine of floor exercises at home.

Road to rebound Day 11-12:

My cousin's birthday and family day respectively... it was fun but for my program its really hurting me real bad. Any way day 13 would drag me to UP to meet up with my friends for us to jog. Excited for the next day, dismayed for this past two.

Road to perdition Day 9-10:

Stress eating and sulking over unrequited thingamajigs.

Road to perfect body Day 8:

What I ate today? lettuce, 1 tbsp vinaigrette, 1 tbsp olive oil, cheese and 1 can tuna (salad), 3 table spoons full of oat meal, 1 table spoon honey, 2 cups of rice, fried chicken and spare ribs. 2 cans of pineapple juice.

What I did the whole day: In the morning I did 2 sets of leg raises, 2 hundreds, 2 sets of crunches and 150 dips. Sleep, sleep and lots of more sleep.

*I now have a bad case of Flu. I wish to have a better day tomorrow. I'll get back to sleep in a while.

Road to perfect body Day 7:

Food intake: Penne pasta + 2 chicken breast with cheese, 1 grande caramel macchiato, 1/4 strawberry Belgian waffle with whip cream, 1 krispy creme doughnut, 1 KFC Zinger, 1 Can of Red horse beer, 1 can of pineapple juice.

Physical activity... what physical activity? HAHA

Notable Notes: Alcohol is 7 k/cal per God knows how many, I drove while slightly intoxicated (an honest mistake - I forgot that I gulped a can of -OH), Got more inspired because of a meeting with Madame Perfect, but it turned out that time is just ticking and I'm too sleepy to yeah do some more exercise.

Road to perfect body Day 6: NO DAY 6 CHEAT DAY >:D

Road to perfect body Day 5:

Okay fitness day... jogged for 30 mins around the house, 300 crunches, 150 dips, 3 sets of hundreds, 3 sets of 100 5lb weights for biceps, 90 leg raises.

Another okay eating day... ate a slice of pork knuckles, 1 green mango, half cup rice, beef tapa, 6 pcs. blanched petchay, 2 pcs. hakaw, another half cup of rice and red snapper fish fillet in light lemony and chilly Chinese sauce.

Road to perfect body Day 4:

dead day ; jogged in the morning ; did not exceed my dieting caloric limit ; so damn fucking tired from school. HAHA

Road to perfect body Day 3:

Had reporting at school and never got the chance to have a good sleep. Good floor exercise day, 300 crunches, 90 leg raises, 3 sets of hundreds, 3 sets of 50 reps for the obliques, 150 reps of 5 lbs. dumbbells for biceps and 150 dips. Later (time now 00:30) I'll wake up early and start jogging.

I had a well controlled food intake today, 3 tbsp of oatmeal alone, 1 can of pineapple juice, 1 cup of vegetable chowder, 1/4 cup rice, lime fish fillet, chopsuey, tuna caesar salad, 1/2 glass of fresh milk and 1 pc. otap.

Road to perfect body Day 2:

This day was a sleeper, exam day, so mentally I had my neurons working - maybe using some energy but not what I'm actually desiring for. Got home pretty late so for my exercise  I gave about 30 minutes targeting my core. 300 crunches, 90 leg raises, 3 sets of hundreds and 150 reps for the obliques and some other more.

my dietary intake was so-so too,
3 tbsp of oatmeal, 1 tbsp of honey, 1 tbsp of powdered milk, a heap load of lettuce, 1 small can of century tuna, 2 tbsp of ceasar dressing, 2 small square slices of greasy pizza, 1 glass of guyabano juice, 1 glass of green mango shake, 4 pcs of siomai, 4 slices of wheat bread, 2 tbsp of peanut butter, 1 glass of non-fat fresh milk.

Road to perfect body Day 1:

I dunno what has gotten into me, I'm so psyched to do some working-out / lifestyle change! haha i did 3 sets of 100 crunches, 3 sets of hundreds, 3 sets of 30 leg raises, 3 sets of 50 dips, 3 sets of 50 "i-don't-know-what-it's-called" for the obliques, 3 sets of 10 pull-ups, 3 sets for biceps

then I ate, oat meal 3 spoons again for breakfast, lunch was 1 fourth cup rice and some pork, for snack 2 slices of bread (PB&J), a can of pineapple juice, for dinner i'll go with salad later lettuce tomatoes, olive oil and vinaigrette. I'm feeling the change already! haha (so much for positivity)

Know Your Pinoy Climber: Stan Feleo

"Know Your Pinoy Climber" is a new segment of this blog, it is patterned over 'D Dude Outdoors' "Dirtbag Culture: Dirtbagger of the month".

It aims to promote "Philippine Climbing", to give recognition to our local climbers, to entice people to try the sport, and also to set as an inspiration to many.

But always remember, Climbing is super fun but can be lethal as well. So Climb On, Climb Hard and definitely CLIMB SMART!

without any further ado I present to you the first "Know Your Pinoy Climber - Climber"

STAN FELEO

First Ascent of "Anghang", Wawa Montalban. Photo by Dennis Diaz
Name: Jonathan Cruz Feleo

Date of birth: December 30, 1988

Weight: 135lbs

Height: 5.5'

Nickname: Stan

Hometown: Quezon City

Years Climbing: I've been climbing since high-school, but I took climbing seriously during my 3rd year in College. So that makes it 3 years.

Sponsors: Does my Dad count? if no, then, none so far.

Favorite climbing shoes: I recently got a new pair of 5.10 Anasazi VCS. It has always been my dream shoe since I started climbing. I love how the heel fits perfectly and the rubber is just so sticky, which is very good for smearing and just pasting your feet on the wall. I really want to get my hands on a La Sportiva Miura VS. It just looks so cool and from the reviews I've read it's one of the best performing shoe out there but it's also so damn expensive.

Greatest climbing accomplishment: This would have to be my redpoint of "Itchy Flutterby Extension" in Cantabaco Cebu. This was during my 2nd trip. I was able to finish the original route and when I heard that there was a newly bolted extension, I just had to try it. Sadly, on my Flash attempt, just a few draws from the anchors, one of the holds I was resting on popped out. Funny thing was, due to panic, instead of shouting "rock!" I shouted "Shit Shit Shit!". Luckily no one below got hurt.

Bagong Taon, Bagong Akyatan, Bagong Kaibigan, Panibangong BUHAY

Leading Yema, Atimonan Quezon
(the title is in Filipino my native tongue - "New Year, New Climb, New Friends, Anew Life")

Living a simple life, breathing fresh air, gulping an ounce of adventure, eating good food, cheating death and having another shot at life is the BEST way to start someone's year right. If that's the case, I am starting my 2011 right.

We went to Atimonan, Quezon for our first outdoor climb of the year. I met other climbers and hopefully new friends.

Experienced an "almost-life-ending-accident" that made me realized that this is already my "second life" so I must rejoice and celebrate it more! Ironically the accident was not me falling from the top after a climb, but something falling to me in a spear like fashion that ripped my pants-off and that seemed to have given me a knock-out punch to my jaw. Just suffered from a minor sprain, heavily bruised and sore ankle ligaments and leg muscles, and some multiple-abrasion on my face and leg.

Any way the more important part is that I'm still alive and I shared a moment of cheating death and recovery from that experience with an awesome bunch of people who helped me recuperate from it. Also, I got a heap-load of lessons learned.

I'M ONE LUCKY SON OF A BITCH!

THANK YOU LORD!

Before ending this entry, I would like to thank this set of people for sharing this episode of my life: Kuya Jao, Pastor Noel, Kap Chris, Fred, Ian, Ate Mity, Ate KQ, Kuya Mackie, Kuya Sly, Jp Beiber, Manong and Manang caretaker. Thank you very much!

Video Sing and Play: Sampip by Parokya Ni Edgar

Posted something out of frustration and envy - first sin of 2011 is that you? Thanks Cousin Regine and JD Item for the wonderful idea - me playing and singing then posting it to the world wide web.

Take note: sorry for the fast strumming, for the wrong lyrics in the second verse, for the mediocre voice quality and for some off tunes.
