Know Your Pinoy Climber: Stan Feleo

"Know Your Pinoy Climber" is a new segment of this blog, it is patterned over 'D Dude Outdoors' "Dirtbag Culture: Dirtbagger of the month".

It aims to promote "Philippine Climbing", to give recognition to our local climbers, to entice people to try the sport, and also to set as an inspiration to many.

But always remember, Climbing is super fun but can be lethal as well. So Climb On, Climb Hard and definitely CLIMB SMART!

without any further ado I present to you the first "Know Your Pinoy Climber - Climber"

Name: Jonathan Cruz Feleo

Date of birth: December 30, 1988

Weight: 135lbs

Height: 5.5'

Nickname: Stan

Hometown: Quezon City

Years Climbing: I've been climbing since high-school, but I took climbing seriously during my 3rd year in College. So that makes it 3 years.

Sponsors: Does my Dad count? if no, then, none so far.

Favorite climbing shoes: I recently got a new pair of 5.10 Anasazi VCS. It has always been my dream shoe since I started climbing. I love how the heel fits perfectly and the rubber is just so sticky, which is very good for smearing and just pasting your feet on the wall. I really want to get my hands on a La Sportiva Miura VS. It just looks so cool and from the reviews I've read it's one of the best performing shoe out there but it's also so damn expensive.

Greatest climbing accomplishment: This would have to be my redpoint of "Itchy Flutterby Extension" in Cantabaco Cebu. This was during my 2nd trip. I was able to finish the original route and when I heard that there was a newly bolted extension, I just had to try it. Sadly, on my Flash attempt, just a few draws from the anchors, one of the holds I was resting on popped out. Funny thing was, due to panic, instead of shouting "rock!" I shouted "Shit Shit Shit!". Luckily no one below got hurt.

Leading Yema, Atimonan Quezon
(the title is in Filipino my native tongue - "New Year, New Climb, New Friends, Anew Life")

Living a simple life, breathing fresh air, gulping an ounce of adventure, eating good food, cheating death and having another shot at life is the BEST way to start someone's year right. If that's the case, I am starting my 2011 right.

We went to Atimonan, Quezon for our first outdoor climb of the year. I met other climbers and hopefully new friends.

Experienced an "almost-life-ending-accident" that made me realized that this is already my "second life" so I must rejoice and celebrate it more! Ironically the accident was not me falling from the top after a climb, but something falling to me in a spear like fashion that ripped my pants-off and that seemed to have given me a knock-out punch to my jaw. Just suffered from a minor sprain, heavily bruised and sore ankle ligaments and leg muscles, and some multiple-abrasion on my face and leg.

Any way the more important part is that I'm still alive and I shared a moment of cheating death and recovery from that experience with an awesome bunch of people who helped me recuperate from it. Also, I got a heap-load of lessons learned.

I'M ONE LUCKY SON OF A BITCH!

THANK YOU LORD!

Before ending this entry, I would like to thank this set of people for sharing this episode of my life: Kuya Jao, Pastor Noel, Kap Chris, Fred, Ian, Ate Mity, Ate KQ, Kuya Mackie, Kuya Sly, Jp Beiber, Manong and Manang caretaker. Thank you very much!

Video Sing and Play: Sampip by Parokya Ni Edgar

Posted something out of frustration and envy - first sin of 2011 is that you? Thanks Cousin Regine and JD Item for the wonderful idea - me playing and singing then posting it to the world wide web.

Take note: sorry for the fast strumming, for the wrong lyrics in the second verse, for the mediocre voice quality and for some off tunes.
